What is a difficult conversation?

Expressing disagreement, exercising your no, saying stop. Constructive criticism or correction. Navigating and hopefully resolving conflict. Confrontation or even intervention. Reproof and rebuke. Tension in patterned interactions. – Mussar Center

The course identifies middot/traits that are active when engaging in difficult conversations. Using the wisdom of Mussar combined with the guidelines outlined in Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication, we will discover new ways of approaching difficult conversations.

Instead of habitual, automatic reactions, our words become conscious responses based firmly on awareness of what we are perceiving, feeling, and wanting. We are led to express ourselves with honesty and clarity, while simultaneously paying others a respectful and empathic attention.” – Marshall Rosenberg

Facilitators: Caryl Shaw & Jay Gainsboro - Both Caryl and Jay are certified Mussar Institute facilitators and have been practicing Mussar for more than a decade.

Mussar classes have limited registration in order to provide an intimate class experience. This class is limited to 12 participants. Registration will close ONE WEEK before classes are scheduled to begin. If more students register than can be accommodated, instructors will hold a lottery to choose students. You will be notifed a few days before the class is scheduled to begin to confirm your registration.
